In 1960 Sheboygan, an addition was added to Bensman’s Park and Shop Grocery to include some large walk-in refrigerators for meat and other cold produce, this would prove a worthy design challenge for our project as we encountered several differences in floor finish as it relates to height and material. The original structure, the pre 1960’s building while architecturally interesting with the large barrel wood structure, also proved to make creating an intimate worship space a challenge. The mix of materials over the years combined with the various previous uses of this space added character, but also a design challenge - we found that strategy was needed to balance design, budget, and space planning. The end result is a space tailored to Arise Church’s special ministry style that offers intentional fellowship spaces throughout their lobby gathering areas.
